Brave New World Questions

I. Answer the following questions based on the novel by Aldous Huxley.

  1.  The relevance of chapters 1, 2 and 3 is that in these chapters the author is describing the place, situation, and all the information that we need to understand what is happening, like the different types of humans (alpha, beta, gammas and epsilon), and how they are created, making us introduce and understand the plot of the book.

  2.  This chapters are of a descriptive kind, because in each chapter describe different things. In the first chapter, provides an introduction to the world from where man was born, explaining the different types of human and the process of their creation; in the second chapter, describes children delta fitness, by showing to students how they makes them hate and fear for certain things; and in the third chapter, is shown to students as children are distracted, and also tells how modern civilization began to destroy the past.

  3.  The one of the most important facts is that is a new way of creating humans. The second more important fact is that they are no more parents. The third fact is that betas don´t like flowers and books. The fourth, and final fact, is that a human can change our way to think.

II. Describe the context of the following quotes: Who said that? When? Why? To whom?

   A)     “They’ll be safe from books and botany all their lives”: (Second Chapter) The director says this to the students located in the nursery, explaining how they make delta babies to hate and fear flowers and books.

   B)      “But in Epsilons…we don’t need human intelligence”:  (First Chapter) Henry Foster says this to the students, explaining the different types of humans.

   C)      “Family, monogamy, romance. Everywhere exclusiveness, everywhere a focusing on interest, a narrow channel of impulse and energy”: (Third Chapter) The director says this, and refers to the interests of the different human types and the different way of thinking.

This New Technology Is Going To Save Lives

Scientists are in the process of a new Project which can make collisions decrease. This is because they constructed a new car that can drive by it.

This project is for people that don´t like to drive and also for irresponsible people that drive drunk or drive without following the rules, as this new car takes wherever you want and in a secure way. It works with a movement sensor that has a range of 2 km, making it safe. One of the inventors of this car called John Smith says: “This new invention is going to change the lives of people”.

The car is like a normal car (with 5 seats and the trunk), but with a TV in the front of the car that is “the computer that controls it”, and with a keyboard on the handlebar to write the direction of the destination. This car is of a solid metal resistant to everything and with leather seats, making it comfortable.

In conclusion, this new car is going to make our lives easier and secure, helping people to transport in a comfortable way, making people buy it and love it. Do you think that this new project is going to work? I think so, and I think that it is going to save lives in the way, do you agree with me?

Task 2

1.- The video is about a fiscal cliff that has U.S. (a big debt), making that this state stop producing technbology and science to reduce the debt.

2.- The main concern conveyed in the video is that all the cuts mensioned on the video, will reduce jobs, scientific progress and threaten U.S. competitiveness; making a risk of lossing the place of global lider in scientific and technological innovations.

3.- If the goverment stops funding science and technology will make a problem for the most of the people of U.S. because now people used it too much depending of it. And not is only a problem to U.S. because other countries depends of the products of this state.

4.- I´m disagree with the video because I depend of technology, to search information making it easier, and also I depend of science, for example when I´m sick and I need some medicine.

5.- I don´t think so, because Chile don´t provide enought money for research and science. This can be proved because they are not good scientist, making that Chile don´t have great inventions.

Discovering The World

For me, science can be interpret in different ways but in my opinion I think that science can be clasified in two ways: like a process of discovering the world and like how things work at any time(past, present and future) making science something exciting for people.

First of all, I think that science is basically a way of discovering what´s in the universe and to know how it worked or works, answering some questions that never have answered before. To discover new things motivate scientists because the can have the opportunity of see and study something first than anybody having preference, but I think that is because that they want to have credit in the process of studying and discovering new things because for me the want to be famous and to be recognize for their discovery.

Secondly, science also is based to study the past of the times to know how were the live in those times and also studying  the bones of those times to know the tipe of animals living in the past (for example scientifics studied the bones of the monkeys knowing the process of creation of the human being). Also, scientists have to make studies of the present like to know if are some animals unseen or something not discovered and always studying the conditions of the world to know what will happen on the future.

In Conclusion, are many ways to see the significance of the science but this is my way to see it, like a process of discovering and like how things work at any time(past, present and future) making it something exciting for scientists and the rest of the people that are interested in our past, our present and our future and how things were maked.
